Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Director of Cricket Mike Hesson confirmed Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell won’t be available for their upcoming match against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday.

Maxwell was one of the three retained players by RCB during the IPL 2022 players’ retention list along with Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj. Maxwell, who was bought by RCB for a whopping price of INR 14.25 crore in IPL 2021 auctions, was phenomenal with both bat and the ball throughout IPL 2022.

Glenn Maxwell will be available from April 9: Mike Hesson

Although Maxwell isn’t part of Australia’s limited-overs squad against Pakistan, the Victorian player cannot participate for RCB until April 6 as Cricket Australia’s policy does not allow contracted players to participate in any other domestic competition when the national team is playing international matches. Australia will conclude their tour of Pakistan on Wednesday with the solitary T20I match in Lahore.

Hesson said Maxwell will be available to play for the franchise against Mumbai Indians on April 9 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

“It’s pretty clear from Cricket Australia’s point of view that no contracted players are available before the 6th of April. So, regardless of when they arrive here, they can’t play before the 6th of April.

“We have been well aware of that as every other side. We have planned for that. Maxi will be with us and available from the 9th,” Hesson said in a video uploaded on RCB’s official YouTube channel.

Glenn Maxwell scored 513 runs for RCB in IPL 2021

Maxwell joined RCB’s camp on April 1 after completing his marriage in Indian traditions with Indian-born Vini Raman in Chennai last week.

The Melbourne Stars skipper had a dismal season with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in IPL 2020 in UAE where he amassed just 108 runs from 13 matches at an average of 15.42. Maxwell went under a massive transformation since he joined RCB last year. The Australian player scored 513 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 144.10.
