It is not every day that you would need to fold the national flag, so if you do not know the correct way to store the tricolour, read on.
Indians are marking 75 years of freedom and the national flag is a common sight in homes on this day, more so as citizens participate in large numbers in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. It may not be feasible for many members of the public to keep the tricolour flying from their home all year round, so for those who wish to store the flags after the festival of freedom, here is the correct way to do it in four simple steps:
Step 1: Place the Tricolour horizontally
Step 2: Fold the saffron and green bands beneath the white band
Step 3: Fold the white band in such a way that only the Ashoka Chakra is visible on the top with hints of the saffron and green bands
Step 4: Carry the folded flag in arms or palms to keep it stored in a safe, dry place
You may have seen flag lowering ceremonies where members of the armed forces smartly and precisely fold the national flag to the tunes of the song Saare Jahan se Accha. While it may not be so easy to execute by a single person, India’s ace athlete Neeraj Chopra had shown the country how to uphold the dignity of the flag even when unassisted.
Official twitter handle of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ shared a video of the sportsperson to note his #MomentsWithTiranga. The clip was from when Neeraj won the Olympic gold in Tokyo last year. After the victory lap with the tricolour, India’s golden boy reverentially folded the flag to store it in his flag. The @AmritMahotsav handle captioned the video: A mark of a true champion!
