Teej is one of the famous festivals celebrated by the women of India for their husbands. This year it falls on July 31, 2022. Teej is a popular festival in the northern states of India. The states include Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.
As per the Hindu calendar, this time of the year is Sawan and Bhadrapada, which is considered highly auspicious for the festive season.
Teej festival is also named as Sindhara Teej, Chooti teej, Shravana Teej, Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej. The occurrence of Teej during the rainy season is believed as special among Hindu women. Women observe fasting on this day for marital bliss. They adorn themselves with a green saree and bangles, apply henna, and sing Teej songs.
A special gift called Sindhara is sent to the daughter and her in-laws by her parents. The gift consists of homemade sweets, Ghewar, henna, and bangles that are customised based on the requirements of the daughter. Another Teej follows after fifteen days of Hariyali Teej called Badi Teej.
