Guru Purnima is a day to commemorate the importance of teachers in our lives. It is celebrated on the full moon day or Purnima in the month of Ashadha of the Hindu calendar.
Guru Purnima celebrates the birth of Veda Vyasa, the famous sage. As per Buddhism, on this day, Gautam Buddha delivered his first sermon to his first five disciples after he migrated from Bodhgaya to Sarnath. According to Jainism, Lord Mahavira became the ‘Guru’ to his first disciple Gautam Swami on this day.
