Enraged by children playing and bursting firecrackers, a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district allegedly threw acid on two women in his neighbourhood on Friday.
The incident took place in Kailashpuri area of Banda. The man, who runs a fruit cart, was reportedly annoyed at the children making noise and bursting crackers. He asked them to stop playing and when they did not agree, the man allegedly slapped a boy.
The fight escalated and two groups started fighting among themselves. The accused man then brought an acid bottle kept in his house to throw it on them. While the children escaped, two women sitting outside their home in the neighbourhood got burned by the acid.
The women, aged 70 and 18, were taken to district hospital and were admitted to the trauma centre. Their condition is said to be critical, the police said.
The accused man escaped from the spot but was later caught by the police.
Superintendent of Police Abhinandan, who reached the spot, said, “The man scolded the children yet the children did not agree. Following this, he brought a chemical from his house which is used to clean utensils. While the children ran away, a woman aged 70 and an 18-year-old girl, who were sitting on a platform outside their house, got burned.
“As soon as the information was received, the women were immediately admitted to the hospital. They are stable now. The accused has been caught and a case has been registered under relevant sections. Further investigation is underway,” SP Abhinandan added.
